Are you interested in opening your own child care business in your home? Contact one of our Provider Specialists who can help you through the process from the online orientation to your certification. They will explain the requirements such as trainings you will need, fingerprinting and grants, and answer questions you may have. Call for a “Becoming a Child Care Provider” packet for home-based programs that includes the steps involved. We also offer our own 3-hour orientation.

Health Care Consultancy
FREE MAT Training Grants & Health Care Plan Technical Assistance
In January 2005 we started the Council’s Health Care Consultancy Program in response to the recent changes in New York State Medication Regulations. These regulations pertain to all registered and/or licensed child care facilities that will be administering medication to children.
DCCNY offers Medicine Administration Training grants and free on-site technical assistance to review, complete and/or renew your health care plan forms. FARE
FARE (Food Allergies and Research Education). Participants will receive training by a FARE-Recognized Instructor on safe food handling for the growing number of students with life-threatening food allergies.
Health and Safety Best Practices in Child Care Programs
DCCNY’s Healthcare Consultant will give an overview of infection control procedures to keep yourself and children healthy, and review health care plan policies. We will review important updates regarding health and safety checklists, and mask wearing protocols in child care programs.
Elijah’s Law Policies
As a child care professional, you play a critical role in protecting the health and safety of the children in your program. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 13 children is impacted by allergies. Allergies have the potential to create a life-threatening situation. Anaphylaxis must be treated right away. In this session you will gain knowledge about allergies, prevention of anaphylaxis, and what action is to be taken during a medical emergency. Child care providers can save lives!
Infant / Toddler Program
The Council’s Infant/Toddler Specialists are a resource for our member centers and other regulated or licensed child care sites. Our Specialists offer focused attention and expertise to the individualized needs of the infant and young toddler population. Services include technical assistance, individualized intensive technical assistance, and training opportunities.
The Infant/Toddler program provided many hours of training to child care professionals. Topics included Infant and Toddler Learning and Development, Directing Infant and Toddler Programs, Transitioning from Preschool to Infants and Toddlers, Using the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) to Arrange Classroom Environment, and Infant and Toddler Discipline and Guidance. We continued to work in collaboration with the NYC CCR&R Consortium and 21 child care centers implementing the Infant/Toddler Rating Scale (ITERS) to improve program quality, as well as provide technical assistance to child care providers in all modalities of child care. Over 100 technical assistance calls, and over 75 hours of intensive (one to one) technical assistance hours are completed in each contract year by the NYC CCR&R Infant/Toddler Program.
Vanessa Torres is the Council’s Infant/Toddler Specialist, and is involved in all aspects of the Infant/Toddler Program and is available to all early childhood professionals. Services include technical assistance, site visits/consultations, and training opportunities.

Other Grants
Health Care Quality Improvement Grants:
This grant is for child care sites that are working toward a goal of formulating a Health Care Plan, or need additional support in carrying out the plan. The Health Care Quality Improvement Grant will fund Medication Administration Training (MAT), CPR/First Aid training, and/or other related health care training needs up to $250.00.
Learning Environment Quality Improvement Grant:
This grant is for registered/licensed providers and centers that have successfully participated in an Intensive Technical Assistance project that includes a pre and post-assessment using an Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) or other quality-assessment tool. The Learning Environment Quality Improvement Grant will fund the purchase of appropriate materials, chosen in partnership with the assessment –based technical assistance team working with the site. The grant is worth up to $250.00.
Business Quality and Sustainability Grants:
This grant is for registered/licensed home-based child care providers that have successfully participated in an intensive technical assistance project that includes pre and post-assessment using an Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) or other quality –assessment tool, as well as, programs working directly with the Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) on quality programming. The Business Quality and Sustainability Grant will fund training focusing on business operations for child care settings ($250).
Provider Intake / Survey Form
The NYC Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Consortium maintains a database of all registered/licensed child care sites in all five boroughs. We use this information to refer families to quality child care. To keep the data up to date, we ask that you fill out a provider survey that will be sent to our data maintenance team.
